7 Signs You're Working With The Wrong Marketing Agency (And How To Find the Right Fit)

Getting engaged.

These are both important steps before getting married.

Because it gives you a chance to get to know your soon-to-be better half.

When hiring a marketing agency, our approach should be the same.

But in this case, you’re analyzing whether the agency can solve your unique problems and help you reach more customers, increase revenue, grow your profit, and more.

So before you skip this all-important process, and find yourself “married” to the wrong agency, do your due diligence.

Analyzing your marketing partner

Here’s how to tell if an inbound agency is the wrong fit.

  1. Website. What’s your impression of the marketing agency’s website? Does it look nice? Is it up-to-date? Is it fully developed or are there only a few pages? Do they practice what they preach?

  2. The team. Review the About Us page on the agency’s website and look into their employees. Find their social media profiles and review their experience. Are they thought leaders in their field? Are they active on a few networks?

  3. LinkedIn. Use LinkedIn to scope out the agency. Look at basic data like physical location, areas of expertise and recommendations. Don’t forget to explore the clients with whom they work, and see if they line up with what you’re looking for.

  4. Philosophy. Some agencies will promise you the world when it comes to Google rankings. But in reality, ranking on the first page is hugely challenging. In truth, keyword ranking takes time and means foregoing old tactics like link building. The agency should promote delivering a valuable user experience and relevant content – two of the factors Google happens to value, too!

  5. Speed. In the modern world, results take time. Yes, you can get some quick wins. But most marketing campaigns take time to build momentum. Inbound marketing works, but it’s like a snowball rolling down a hill. By the time you get to the bottom, it will be a nice, big, fluffy snowball. So steer clear of anyone promising fast results.

  6. Proof. Please, please, please, don’t work with an agency that can’t show previous results. You need a proven marketing partner, not someone getting their feet wet and using you as a guinea pig!

  7. Approach. A good inbound marketing agency will also focus on your sales and marketing problems, providing a custom solution – not a one-size-fits-all or just trying to get you to sign on the dotted line. We’ve been known to turn clients away because we knew we wouldn’t be able to help their business get results.

How to find the right marketing agency

Our marketing process and approach is founded on transparency. We know what we do well and we also know if we will be able to help you or not.

Why not reach out and schedule a free marketing assessment? You can ask us all the questions in the world and “date” us for as long as you need to  before we partner together.

But we’re also convinced that once you get an inside look at our company culture, work ethic, and results that it’ll be pretty hard for you not to pop the question.

What’s the status of your company’s marketing? Do you need a partner to come alongside you and excel in this area so you can focus on what you do well?
