Keynote Speakers: Why Your Email List Is Your BEST Tool for Generating Revenue

Why Your Email List Is Your BEST Tool for Generating Revenue

  1. It gives you a rapt group of people you can speak directly to.
  2. No one can flip the script on you.
  3. What you put into it is what you get out.
  4. You don’t have to pay for this audience AND they want to hear from you.

Have you experienced one of these situations?

Facebook changes their algorithm, so your posts don’t appear in your followers’ feeds anymore.

Google changes their algorithm, and your website’s ranking suddenly plummets.

This means that all that hard work and money you’ve put into your social media or website can disappear in a matter of minutes

Frustrating, right?

As a keynote speaker, you can’t ignore social media or a website. But your most valuable sales and marketing tool is your email list.

If you want a secure and reliable way to generate revenue, your email list is a veritable goldmine.

Let’s dive a little deeper into this topic.

Why Keynote Speakers Need a Robust Email List

An email list provides several critical but key benefits that almost no other platform or strategy offers. Here’s why:

  • Once you build this audience, you’ve got a rapt group of people you can speak directly to.

Think of like a live performance. Once you get people into the performance venue (your email list), you (the performer) “do your thing,” while every eye in the joint is looking at you. That’s what email does.

  • And no one can change an algorithm on you or flip the script in any way.

This is your “free” audience. They’ve agreed to receive your emails, and in fact, they WANT to receive your messages. The only thing that will change this agreement is if a user decides to unsubscribe.

  • What you put into, you get out of it.

This is a 1:1 ratio. Put a lot of effort into building your list, and you’ll get a lot out of it. It’s that simple!

  • It’s an audience you don’t have to pay for (read: Google Ads or Facebook Ads) that is engaged and WANTS to hear from you.

The user willingly signs up for your emails and expects them. You won’t have to pay for ads in order for your audience to “see” the content (like you would for an internet search or a social media sponsored post).

What’s better than that?

How To Grow Your Email List

Ready to get started?

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Add an email sign up form (also called an opt-in form) to your website.
  2. Make sure your website isn’t cluttered. If you have too much going on and users have to “work” too hard to figure out what you want them to do, they won’t sign up for your email list.
  3. Get an email list software. You’ll definitely want to automate this process! In fact, without an automation system, software or CRM, your email list will be too cumbersome.
  4. Start growing your list. Attract attention with a coupon or exclusive discount or give valuable content away, like a free course or training. You’ll want to give people several ways to join your email list, as a free leadership training may attract one audience, but practical ways to build your personal brand will attract a different one.
  5. Include the sign up link in your navigation bar. This gives it a prominent place on your website that will catch people’s attention.
  6. Send a welcome email. Don’t skip this step! While the message can say something simple like, Thanks for joining my list, it should also ask this question: What are you struggling with? The answers will give you valuable insight into your audience’s biggest problems. And then you can write content that provides solutions!
  7. Build content that attracts attention. You’ll want to create “viral” content (relative to your industry, of course) that people will share  – and in turn, gets more people to sign up for your email list.
  8. Attract press, and “draft” a group that belongs to another influencer over to your email list. It’s like piggy-backing off of someone else’s success or prominence. Writing an authoritative piece of content that speaks to a large audience.

These steps can help you build your email list to have a rapt audience that wants to hear what you have to say and is ready to buy your products and services.

As a keynote speaker, that kind of email list can be invaluable to helping you speak more, build recurring revenue, and have great impact.

What kind of success have you had with building an email list or generating revenue from it?
